When David is not running his businesses or studying, he helps promote local community business and cultural events. He served as Interim President of Downtown Florence Unlimited (DFU) and as Chair of the First Fridays in Florence committee; the monthly arts event was recently selected as a Top 10 event in Northern Alabama by the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel. David also served on several boards of directors including the Kiwanis Club of Florence and the Shoals Community Theatre.

He completed a Masters of Science in Education, Instructional Technology, at the University of Nebraska where he applies emerging online and distance learning techniques in corporate and institutional environments.

David also experimented with mixed media to include oil paintings, watercolors, and photographic digital prints (giclees). David's photographs and content have been published on several websites including AOLTM. His photography was included in a national EPA Smart Growth publication promoting the City of Florence and he released a book titled New Orleans: A Post-Katrina Photo Essay donating the major portion of proceeds to several New Orleans charitable organizations helping New Orleans rebuild. Dave's small press company, Cypress Creek Publishing, has recently helped numerous authors promote their books.

He was enrolled in a local arts class taught by renowned watercolor artist, Tim Stevenson. His art promotion efforts have been featured in several local newspapers and area magazines.
